Cher is a phenomenal star whose career has spanned decades of popular culture. She has become one of the most successful and highest paying stars in the entertainment industry.
Cher was born as Cherilyn Sarkisian LaPiere in 1946, in El Centro, California. Cher’s parents split up when she was young.
At the age of 16, Cher chose not to finish high school after meeting Sonny Bono at a coffee shop. Sonny helped Cher get into singing backup vocals at the studio on several recordings. Eventually Sonny and Cher fell in love and got married. But they split in 1974.
Cher’s album “Believe” released in 1998 shot to the number one spot in Europe. By March of 1999, Cher held the number one spot on the top 40 in the US as well. The album became Cher’s top selling record to date.
Cher launched “The Farewell Tour” in June 2002. During her three-year world-wide tour, she earned almost 250 million dollars. Her CD collection of her greatest hits released in April 2003 has sold 3.5 million copies worldwide. Cher closed her farewell tour in April 2005 at the Hollywood Bowl.
