If you have chronic, widespread body pain for at least three months without any obvious medical cause, then you may meet the definition of fibromyalgia.

Other symptoms of fibromyalgia include fatigue, night sweats, sleep disturbances, memory difficulties, tension or migraine headaches, rib cage pain, chronic pelvic pain, plantar or heel pain, fluctuations in weight, heartburn, palpitations, irritable bowel syndrome. Mood disorders such as depression and anxiety occur more commonly in people who have fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia predominantly occurs in people between 20 and 50 years of age, and 80 percent are females.

So far, most treatments for fibromyalgia such as medication, lifestyle changes, exercise, physical therapy, and behavior modification are able to reduce pain, improve sleep, and relieve associated symptoms.
